PANIC (pan•ik): n. 1. a sudden overpowering terror, often affecting several people at once. 2. a state of unreasonable terror or anxiety over anticipated events. 3. a state that a UNIX kernel enters when critical consistency checks fail and the kernel can no longer operate normally. 4. Physics and Astronomy Network Infrastructure and Computing: your solution to 1, 2, and 3.

MacOS

The Department no longer has public Mac labs. There are still several public Macs, running MacOS X, which are still maintained. MacOS X is supported on faculty desktop and research machines only if installed and maintained by PANIC.

MacOS 9 and earlier versions of the OS are not supported. We will perform data recovery from old Macs, prior to surplus, as long as the hardware is functional and the hardware is turned in to PANIC for surplus.
